School Press Clubs are journalistic clubs set up in schools to get pupils and students to explore writing for a larger purpose and audience. Members work together as researchers, journalists, photographers, designers, contributors, and editors to gather and share school, local, national, regional, and global news and topics that are of particular interest to the school-community. Results of press club activities are published and distributed as newsletters, newspapers, or magazines.
While having a Press Club at your school can be fun and exciting for the pupils and students, setting up and having it running smoothly and efficiently can be quite tasking. This is where we come in - to help ease the entire process, so that your school and its pupils/students can make the most of all that having a great Press Club offers.
We assign a Papertown representative to your school to help design, establish, and run the Press Club. From designing the framework for the club to getting members signed up, coordinating club activities/sessions, and coordinating the publication production process, your Papertown Rep would work with the school to get the Press Club up and running.
We provide extensive lesson guides and materials to be used to teach club members everything they need to know about the Press Club, establishing their roles/functions in the club, being journalists, designing the school’s publication, gathering and creating content, and working together as a team to create something impactful!
We produce digital copies of newsletters, newspapers and magazines created by the School Press Club, which can be shared by the school on its digital platform (i.e. website and social media pages). We also publish these school publications on our website and share them with our wide audience, who may be excited to know what is happening in your school.
We are building a continent-wide network of School Press Clubs, creating a platform for an enriching multi-cultural exchange between members of various School Press Clubs. Our network also provides great avenues for schools and their Press Club members to engage with each other in good-natured, positive competitions and constructive intellectual collaborations.
